i have had some info back from Dora, Pati and Sarah as to what they would like to teach – so i am listing the info here and please let me have some feedback!.. i know, for example, that Sarah has a cunning new scheme for “gravity and glitter” – or something like that anyway! this will make its world début in murano – so be there or be square!!!

the info from Dora is as follows

1. Stringer & Dot Application

2. Complex Twisties (includes latticino and wigwags) & Simple Murrinis (including initials)

3. Rattle bead – ie bead on a bead (this involves a 2-day procedure, ie the participants must partake a 2-day workshop) & flower beads – this can be incorporated together with stringer & dot application workshop or complex twisties workshop

4. Working with Metals (silver leaf/foil + copper leaf)

the links to Sarah’s course is here….

and Pati has already confirmed she would like to run two 2-day sessions back to back.. this will be ideal for those of you who would like to hook up two or three classes as the break in between will give y’all some time to see the city and do the factory tours we will be setting up!! 😉

We are also already having some queries about accommodation and there a some visitors who would like to share an apartment on Murano, to keep costs down and just to have fun hinging out with like minded artists! We will try to hook people up wherever possible!

hey guys and gals….

26th of march to 6th april….. start booking flights and stuff, i’m going to take a van down the week before to setup, so anyone feeling like helping out and setting the scene is welcome to volunteer now!!.. 😉 the schedluing looks like it is coming together.. maybe kick off with dora for a four days sessions, followed by pati, sarah and then pati again.. depending on wether we can get it together i am hoping to see if dora can get back for a final few days, with pati and sarah closing us out!..

another wild idea is to have an open “freestylie” sesssion on the last weekend – everyone just hanging out, making beads, eating chocolate and drinking vino.. we can do shooters and big fire tricks into the night and just generally have a good time?…. this is going to be a blast!!!

All righty then – things are progressing nicely…

I have had confirmation that the studio space is being stripped and painted – and the work stations are coming along… we will have at least 10 stations setup and I have had direct contact from Nortel about installing their torches for these classes… I am thinking of using the brand new Nortel Mega Minor, as this will give us enough heat to do bigger and more complex pieces as well as turning it down to do finer, more intricate work.. What does everyone think?.. the other alternative would be to run “normal” minors on one side (5 spaces) and the Mid-Range + torches on the other 5 spots?.. It is so cool to be able to set this up like this – where we can all have some input on how we work!!..

And now – some more pics, this time of the view from the windows of the studio, and the bridges nearby!.. some were taken on a Spring tide – the moon was worth howling at, we may have to keep wellies on standby!..

Before I get clobbered by Sarah though – I also plan to have Hotheads (or the brand new Fire Devils) set up for the Israeli “wonder class”!!!.. 🙂 did anyone seriously think that I’d force her to use anything else?….

My thoughts on the classes are to have 3 or 4 day long sessions by each artist, and that will allow people to “dip” in and out of classes as they want – the idea being you can do some torchering and still get to see the wonderful city that is Venice…. This will also allow our artists some “time-outs” to chill and relax.. Sarah would also like to run a night owl group, starting late afternoon and running till dawn!.. she loves to work in the evenings and this may the most magical place to do this!!..

One way to make this work would be to have the artists travel up to Holland or Belgium to run courses in between?.. this could help to make sure we get the greatest exposure for everyone to each artist – and help those who cannot get down to Murano to share the event’s spirit!!

Basically this whole thing came about as result of a brian (don’t ask) storming session while under the influence with Sarah Hornik during our last classes we ran at the studio here in Belgium… the basic premise was “why not have a cool party and bash thing in Murano – home of glass?”… which just goes to prove the ancient Chinese curse, “be really careful what you wish for!”…

While visiting the Vetrofond factory I mentioned the idea to my contact there and the instant positive response kick started the planning with Mr Moretti making studio space available and promising full factory support with regards organising and thing son Murano, as well as some other little treats I’ll keep to myself for now.. Needless to say the amount of information and the contacts a guy like Mr Moretti brings tot he table is HUGE – and i would like to publicly thank him and Laura for the help so far – and the assistance they are continuing to offer..

I have had some ideas rushing around my brian (again, don’t ask) – the results of which are that we now have dates, and we now have names!…

Get your calenders out and block out the last week in March and the first week in April – ‘coz ready or not, we’re coming to Murano!!! I am keeping an additional week in “reserve” so to speak – either before or after, as i have a suspicion we will need more time to run classes and not stress everyone out!!… In terms of those we are talking to about classes we have already had confirmation that Sarah would like to join us, as well as Dora Schubert from Germany, Pati Walton and John Olson from the States and possibly also Anakin (Brad) – if we can swing the timetable and studio space… Diana East has also confirmed she would love to come down and help us out by running the odd one day session, which would be just great!..

Right now I would like to do everything possible to keep the courses under the Eu250 per day rate, and try to leverage the multiple artists coming in to achieve some sorts of economies of scale!.. Mr Moretti has offered to help us hook up with the local Muranese who have self catering apartments to keep everyone on the island and at good prices.. the added benefit to this will be that beaders can hook up and “house share” or even better bring their families with to hang out with us.. this way everyone gets a break, we all get to mess with cool glass, and soak up the incomparable atmosphere of this most magical place!

Just Stunning - heart breakingly beautiful

Hello everyone, glad you found us!!!
